The Pebble motto: Our strength is the women we empower and the wonderful products they make.

Hathay Bunano, meaning hand made or hand knitted in Bangla, is a non-profit fair trade organisation in Bangladesh.  It’s mission is to create fairly paid, good quality, flexible and local employment for rural women who are poor and often disadvantaged.

Hathay Bunano aims to provide employment which fits in with the rhythm of rural life and to prevent economic migration to the cities.  It aims to keep families together and in particular to keep mummies with their babies and children by providing employment in a village setting close to their homes.  It aims to address all the reasons why a woman might not be able to work and to support her so that she can work and can earn money to support her family.

Wooden Baby Rattles

Our wooden baby rattles are made by eco-aware companies Selecta and Grimms in Germany, and in Taiwan by Playme.

Selecta – Selecta European wooden toys are made in Germany using eco timbers, non-toxic dyes and beeswax finishes.  Selecta have been known for over 40 years world-wide for their superb quality educational toys.

All the company’s wood is made from native maple, beech and pine trees and Selecta only chooses FSC-accredited timber from sustainable forests.

All Selecta’s products are rigorously tested to the”CE” and “ASTM” Regulations by the German Testing laboratory TUV and Selecta instigate continuous quality control procedures throughout production and delivery.

The company only uses safe paints and lacquers and all of the products have a unique soft and colourful “Selecta” finish.

Selecta’s philosophy has always been to make toys that are safe, fun and built to last! The company also cares for the environment by making use of the woodchips left over in production to heat it’s production facilities and offices.

Grimms – are a small firm based in Hochdorf at the foot of the Swabian Alb in southern Germany. Here they coat the wood with natural oil, stain with water-based colour and control the quality of their products to strict European safety standards.

Grimms source their wood from sustainably managed forests in Europe (alder, lime, beech and maple trees).

All colors and oils used are certified in accordance with the EN 71 and CPSIA/ASTM 963 standards. They are completely harmless.

Grimms aim to achieve minimal packaging because they do not want to contribute to worldwide packaging waste any more than absolutely necessary to ensure safe transport.

Playme Toys – use only natural and renewable materials. The company was born from a love of wood design. Quality is never compromised – strict quality control is applied in each production process.
